The company has released a beta of its semantec search engine that Stephen Baker reports can deliver impressive results.

I agree. In my own research, Google has this rather annoying habit of returning pages that are years out of date. I guess thats not so surprising given that PageRank ranks pages based on the number and rank of referring links. Higher ranked pages have more importance than lower ranked paged. The more high ranking pages pointing to a page, the higher the pages rank. All of which tends to favor older pages.

Selective directories are

Aviva
Alive
Big Web Links
ewebpages
Directory Dum
Elegant Directory
gii
Idk
Nobledirectory and many more

Google is removing their pages and they are not even ranking for there name. It has happened in past to directories like bluefind , uncoverthenet .

Branson told the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. he was worried that Fossett, who disappeared over the Nevada desert after taking off in a small plane late on Monday, had not activated the aircraft's emergency tracking beacon.

"I'm talking with friends at Google about seeing whether we can look at satellite images over the last four days to see whether they can see which direction he might have been flying and whether they can see any disturbances anywhere that they can pin from space," he said from Barcelona, Spain.

The company's Google Earth product offers a mapping service which uses satellite imagery.

Watchdog examines Google bid

GOOGLE is facing another stoush with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission - the regulator has quietly launched an "informal review" of the online giant's troubled global takeover of the online ad serving and measurement market leader DoubleClick.

In a letter sent last week to online publishers, digital agencies and other internet service groups, the commission detailed 10 issues on which it was seeking industry opinion in relation to the effect Google's proposed $US3.1 billion ($3.8 billion) takeover would have in the Australian market.

The online juggernaut is already fighting the commission in the Federal Court with the Sensis-owned Trading Post over claims made by the regulator that the two companies engaged in misleading and deceptive conduct over sponsored links served up by Google. The ACCC has claimed it is the first action of its type in the world by a competition regulator against Google.

The first directions hearing was held two weeks ago but a date for the case was delayed until a second hearing on September 10.
